Our Home : for the children
Our children are the centre of our Home. As far as possible, we try to provide an environment that can be a real 'home' for them, and more than just an institution providing accommodation and meals.

The children stay in shared bedrooms, in small groups of 3-4 from different age groups, like brothers or sisters who can learn from and help one another. They look after their own clothes, kept in their own individual wardrobes, and take responsibility for their surroundings.

Each of our care-givers 'mothers' three such groups, and stay with the children 24 hours a day, living in an adjacent room. We call them Mothers, because of the close relationship they have with the children.

Shared activities and duties are planned at weekly family meetings, encouraging active discussion of problems and suggestions, and participation in decision-making.

Some of the older children have moved into our half-way house, where they have single rooms and can prepare for living more independently.

The children are encouraged to feel part of their local community, for instance joining other local children in walking to school (in the case of the secondary school, 4km away, the older children leave at 6am).

We even have our own soccer team, which competes in local tournaments, and is trained by one of our gardeners.
